Mt Denali (Mt McKinley) seen from Trapper Creek

You can see Alaska three ways: fly in, cruise in or drive from lower 48 to the great state of Alaska. There is so much more to see besides cruising though. So many roads will take you to beautiful scenery that you won't see by cruise ship. Fly in to Anchorage (south)or Fairbanks (north), rent a 4WD vehicle or an RV, and hit the highway system. There really aren't too many highways in Alaska. But make sure to top off your gas tanks often. You don't want to run out. Gas stations are widespread along the highways. And you never know if the next gas station will be open or closed. The tall mountains are in the south central part and hills in Fairbanks. There are goldmines to explore, quaint villages to explore, lakes and rivers to fish and boat on, rafting, kayaking, hiking, glaciers to trek, sled dogs to visit, wildlife viewing, Northern lights in the fall and winter months to experience ( can be viewed approximately August 21 to April 21), trains to ride, flightseeing Denali, see Santa Claus year-round and so much more. Alaska is a great location for photographers (professional and non-professional).
